Varsity Selection Criteria

The Varsity Races take place on the Varsity Trip in December. We have three male teams and two women’s teams, each of which consist of six racers. The racers compete in Giant Slalom and Slalom. The fastest four times in each discipline count towards the team time. The trials for the races take place on the trip and consist of two runs down a slalom course. The times are only seen by the women’s and men’s race captains and are used to select the teams. Members of the first team are eligible for a Half Blue.

The second and third teams are selected by the race captains using the results from the time trials. A member of each team will also be selected as the respective team’s captain.

The Blues teams are selected based on the times and consistency from the time trial. Under exceptional circumstances (such as two identical times) other considerations will be taken into account. These may include, but are not limited to: previous results, training sessions attended and fitness sessions attended. The team selection will be announced later that night but the results from the time trials will not be published. The Blues captains are traditionally the male and female race captains for the year, however, if they fail to make the team or there is a faster and more consistent racer the captaincy is often given to that racer.
